Web and Graphic Design Tutorial Sites
 |
As much as I would love to believe it sometimes, I don’t know everything. Far from it. The great thing about being a designer is the fact that there are thousands of us, and we all have different levels of expertise. The field of web and graphic design is filled with amazingly talented people who don’t mind sharing their knowledge.
What follows is a list of sources of that knowledge. Websites that collate or allow designers to submit their web and graphic design tips and tutorials. We all come across something we can’t quite work out at some point in our career, these sites could help.
First up is tuts+ (www.tutsplus.com). I have mentioned them before in their psdtuts guise. I mention them again because of the quality of the resources on their various sites. Tuts+ is the hub of them all and a great place to begin the search for knowledge. The great thing about this site is that it is aimed at those will existing skills in web and graphic design, rather than those new to it. That makes it much more relevant to my needs and saves me time not having to surf past the beginner guides.
Next has to be the inimitable Smashing Magazine (www.smashingmagazine.com). This site has been running for years, and has been a great source of knowledge since its inception. There are general web tutorials, basic and advanced graphic design tutorials and everything in between. There is also a sprinkling of general information too, like where to look for inspiration or discussions of various font formats.
CreativePro (www.creativepro.com) is another site aimed at existing designers rather than newcomers. It has a whole raft of categories that contain hundreds of hints, tip and ideas. It also has forums and a blog where we can exchange ideas or provide feedback.
All Graphic Design (www.allgraphicdesign.com) is a mixed bag. It is stuffed full of information and useful articles, but it takes a while to sort the wheat from the chaff. I think it tries to strike the middle ground between beginners and more advanced users, so there is a bit of filtering to do. As far as web and graphic design sites go, it is still a good one.
I’m sure there are plenty of others, but they are all I can think of right now. They all add something to my arsenal of web and graphic design skills, enabling me to grow as I go along. I’m sure there is something in each one of these that has something to offer you, whatever your skill level. |
